Twittter - An Introduction by Mike Klingler

What is Twitter and can it help me build an audience of friends and business associates?

Well - that is the golden question.  I have written about this under my Social Marketing category right here on my blog as an update but Twitter is such a powerful networking tool that I had to give it it's own category.  Wouldn't do it justice to just  lump it in there with all of the others.

Why is Twitter such an amazing on line social site and what is causing all the buzz?  Well, I just listened to a webinar conducted by Mike Klingler on Twitter to see what he offered up that I didn't already know and of course, as usual, Mike is spot on about Twitter.

Twitter is a place to build relationships.  Bottom line.  That pretty much sums it up in a nutshell.  Building relationships is what Network Marketing is all about and Twitter is an easy and powerful way to build an on-line network of friends and business associates who can see what you are doing from minute to minute if you choose to update that frequently.

This sure beats the old way of networking and if you are anything like me, it is easier and more fun.  I always struggled with networking at events because, by nature, I am a very social person but I HATED approaching strangers to talk business and "mingle".  Just is not who I am.

Twitter and on line social sites in general have changed all of that.  It has opened the door for all Network Marketers to do business the right way without being intrusive or "pushy".  Twitter is a place to build contacts and that in turn builds trust.  I've gotten to know so many people through my Twitter page and I have learned mountains of new information that I have found invaluable.  The old way of networking would have taken me years to develop the contacts I have been able to make in a matter of months.

So how do you use Twitter and how do you get started?

Well, first you need to get a Twitter account.  It's pretty simple to do.  You just go to http://twitter.com and sign up on the site for an account.  They ask for some information which is basic for any social site you use.  Remember, the key word here is social so give them enough information so that anyone viewing your profile can get a good idea of who you are and what you do.  This is one of the step by step instructions Mike Klingler walks you through in his webinar.

Next, start TwitteringTwittering is basically sending brief, one or two sentence "tweets" about what you are doing.  Say you are sitting at your computer working on something.  Well, write one or two sentences about that.  For instance, "Just got up and relaxing with a cup of coffee and laptop.  Getting ready to write."

That's it.  People get to know you through these tweets and you get to know them also.

How do you build an audience?

Well your audience are basically your followers.  Followers and people who are interested in what you are twittering about and what you are doing.  You can find people by doing searches or you can follow people that others you know are following.  If you are brand new to Twitter, you could follow someone like  Mike Klingler and any of his followers who would be people interested in Network Marketing and then build your audience from there.

Once, and only after you have networked a little with the people on Twitter, can you start to share content you have written.  This is about building trust and relationships first, then you can promote a little.  Value first, remember.  That is what Internet Attraction Marketing is all about.    You share your content through your tweets by posting a link to your content.  Let your followers know what your content is about so they can decide if it is something they would be interested in.  Make sure you are offering them value.   If you share your videos, blogs whatever you have, it will be a great advantage for you.  You can drive traffic to your content which will rank you higher on the search engines.

Also, as Mike Klingler emphasizes in the webinar, don't always promote your own stuff.  This is about networking and promoting other people's content is a great way to build trust.

Remember, the interaction and relationship building Twitter offers is powerful.  This is not only a social site but also a content SHARING site, and sharing more than just your materials is very very important.
